There's no motorway to it from where we are, so the journey from Bradninch is cross-country and slower than the mileage suggests — and that is precisely why so many couples choose it. Ash Barton, Westcott Barton, The Old Barn: places that feel a long way from anywhere because they genuinely are. We build the extra hours into the schedule and load earlier, which is the whole trick.
The landscape sets the brief. Clifftops above Woolacombe and Croyde, estates in the rolling country behind Barnstaple, the Exmoor fringe where the fields run into moor. Wind and salt air are real considerations on a coastal site, and the walk from the nearest parking to the marquee is often longer than anyone expects. We arrive fully self-contained and 95% locally sourced, and for marquee weddings we'll usually visit first to see the ground for ourselves.
The food that suits it is generous and unfussy: sharing feasts down long barn tables, wood-fired pizza and BBQ for the outdoor stretch of the day, and vegan and vegetarian menus that hold their own. Behind it is Dave Corker and his team, twenty-five years into cooking in this county.

We're in Bradninch, near Cullompton, and there is no fast road north — the run out to Barnstaple, Bideford or the coast is cross-country and slower than the mileage implies. It's well within range and we do it gladly; we just build the extra time into the schedule rather than discovering it on the morning.
- Can you cater a wedding on the North Devon coast?
- Yes, and the coast is half the reason people marry up here. Clifftop marquees and beach-adjacent venues bring wind, salt air and long carries from the nearest parking, so we plan the service style around them — covered service, dishes that hold their temperature, and a setup that doesn't depend on a still day.
- Do you cover Barnstaple, Bideford and Ilfracombe?

- Our venue is a barn in the middle of nowhere. Is that a problem?
- That describes most of the North Devon weddings we cook, so no — it's the normal case rather than the awkward one. We turn up with our own kitchen and team and need nothing from the venue but three practical things: somewhere to put the refrigerated van without a quarter-mile carry, a couple of standard power points, and water of some kind nearby. A hosepipe or a butt does the job; it doesn't need to be plumbed.
